Calendar of Events for 2017
March 18th: We are resurrecting our former GC doubles event and looking for a sponsor. Interested? Let me know. The format will either be "pick-your-partner" traditional doubles (in two flights) or Waterford Doubles (where you play three games, each with a different partner).
April 15th: The British are coming, literally. We are hosting England's MacRobertson Shield AC team for a special one-day Exhibition before the lads ship off to the desert to compete for the World Team AC championship. A select group of six Americans from the Western US will square off in singles and doubles matches against the English team. Members of the England team will also demonstrate select AC shots for spectators. This will be AC at it's finest level. I'm also planning on some interesting surprises for our guests on the other side of the pond. www.pasadenanow.com/main/englands-national-croquet-team-to-put-on-exhibition-at-pasadenas-central-park/#.WNyuB4WcHPv
May 6th: Kentucky Derby Day. We will play two different types of fun horse-race themed croquet games, the Grandey Gallup (formerly known as the Bell-Mont) and the Run for the Rose, followed by my famous mint juleps (heavy, medium or light pours) and snacks! Perhaps Dame Judith Warren will also host the Grand Jump event as well?
May 19 - 21: The 7th annual Kamal Cup of Golf Croquet Singles, named in honor of our colleague Dr. Mohammad Kamal, three-time American GC Singles National Champion. This year we will feature three flights. On Friday evening, May 12th, we will have a single-elimination Second Flight. The First Flight will be contested Saturday and Sunday mornings and the Championship Flight Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The winner of the C Flight gets his/her name engraved on the vaunted Kamal Cup. Will it be your name?
June 10 - 11: The Pasadena Open of AC singles. All flights and experience levels welcome. Hoping to capitalize on the interest generated in AC by the British Exhibition, I will create flights and formats based on those who enter.
July 29th: Crazy Croquet. Played like miniature golf, each of the nine "holes" features a difficult obstacle before making the hoop. The person to complete the course with the fewest number of strokes wins! Fourrrrr!! Can you defeat the reigning champion, the legendary Eric "Ehare" Harris, and earn the right to wear the champion's green jacket for the year? We'll also have our "Unusual Silent Auction" in which you can bid on unique croquet items, signed croquet memorabilia, antiques and other marvels. And finally we will hand out our annual Club Member of the Year award.
In addition to the above, we will also have AC clinics and classes during the Spring, American Rules clinics and classes during the Fall, the renewed GC Saturday morning Fight Club during the Fall, and perhaps an October American Rules "Fall Ball" tournament. Is it way too much croquet? Nooooooo! Never!!
